Unwritten IR: 'There's always another bomb'.

Perhaps, Gregor Jordan's Unthinkable does not quite reach the cinematic heights of Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. Yet, the two are certainly comparable in their relentless probing of the questions arising form the security concerns of their respective times. And these questions and concerns, in turn, did not go away with the end of the Cold War. In place of the clearly demarcated nuclear confrontation between the two superpowers came in diverse and diffuse conflicts driven by ethnic grievances or religious beliefs. To put it in the words of one of the characters of Jordan's film: 'There's always another bomb'. And, as in the security dilemma once presented by Kubrick, attempts to protect oneself against this threat may well result in self-destruction.
