Authoritarian Neoliberalism and the Instrumentalization of the Banking Sector in Turkey and Hungary
This new study examines how banking systems can become powerful political tools under authoritarian neoliberal regimes. Focusing on Hungary and Turkey since the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, it explores how leaders have intervened in credit allocation to secure their political survival. Drawing on interviews, media reports, and official documents, the research offers a comparative look at how global financial hierarchies, domestic power blocs, and crisis dynamics shape the ways political elites use the banking sector to consolidate their rule.
