IRES is part of a large collaborative research project, which is administratively run by the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and which comprises leading European and Indian universities and research institutes. The project investigates the role of governance in the resolution of socioeconomic and political conflict in India and Europe. To this end, it examines in detail a series of cases of conflict governance. Besides Michael Merlingen, a number of IRES PhD students participate in the project, notably Elena Stavrevska whose doctoral dissertation deals with the international governance of armed conflict. The IRES team is responsible for establishing the theoretical framework and methodology for the case studies. Also, it takes the lead in researching conflict resolution in Bosnia. The project runs for 3 years, beginning in January 2011.
