Sara Svensson and Gergo Medve-Balint, PhD candidates in CEU’s Department of Public Policy and Department of International Relations and European Studies, respectively, won first prize in an academic essay contest arranged by the Palfi Istvan Regional Development Foundation and the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives. Their paper addresses the ability of local political cross-border alliances (Euroregions) to attract local governments in the area where they are operating, and is based on more than 70 interviews with decision-makers in the Hungarian-Slovak borderlands. On Nov. 28, the two students received a 300,000 HUF prize at a ceremony in Budapest.
