Career Support

Students can participate in an optional professional skill development module, overall substituting up to 6 credits of elective courses. Please get in touch with your department coordinator to discuss the departmental internship policy.

Credits can be gained in the following ways:

  • One internship (up to 4 credits, depending on work schedule)
  • Additional courses in research methods (up to 4 credits)
  • Professional skill development courses (up to 2 credits)

The CEU Career Services Office (CSO) supports students and alumni in defining their personal professional goals and definitions of future success and assists them in gaining information, skills, and experiences that enhance their personal development, employability, and academic success .

The CSO advises students and alumni on all aspects of the career development process including:

  • Conducting self-assessment and career research;
  • Adopting a realistic and long-term approach towards career development;
  • Expanding and managing professional networks;
  • Crafting effective application materials for jobs, internships, and further studies;
  • Preparing for interviews and conducting salary negotiations.

There are many ways for students to engage with the office:

Internship

While internships are not mandatory for students pursuing their degrees at the IR department, we are committed to offering them many opportunities to do one. Together with the Career Services Office, IR students get advice on internship search techniques and input on their internship applications, as well as opportunities to attend meetings with the representatives of NGOs, private and governmental organizations. Additionally, students have access to financial support through various institutional channels. In recent years, students have completed their internships with the following organizations while being supported by the aforementioned funds:   Caritas Jordan (Jordan, Amman), Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Hungary, Budapest) Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples Secretariat (Norway, Tromsø), Stratpol - Strategic Policy Institute (Slovakia, Bratislava), UNFCCC (Germany, Bonn), Stockholm Environment Institute Tallinn Centre (SEI Tallinn) (Estonia, Tallinn), Dziennik Wschodni (Daily Newspaper) (Poland, Lublin).

Through CEU's cooperation with Bard College in New York, students have undertaken internships at organizations in New York, such as Pen America, UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network - Youth, Coda Story, Oxford Analytica, UNDPPA, the Council on Foreign Relations, Nonviolence International, Global Initiatives and Asia Society Policy Institute.
