Balčaitė attends a workshop on migration brokerage at NUS

On June 1-2nd, post-doctoral reseach fellow Dr Indrė Balčaitė attended an academic workshop ‘The Migration Industry: Facilitators and Brokerage in Asia’, organized by the Asia Research Institute at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She presented a paper titled ‘Omnipresent Migration Brokerage in Thailand: Providing an Alternative to and Mediating Legal Procedures’ based on long-term fieldwork with low-skilled Burmese labour migrants.

Xymena Kurowska is to chair International Political Sociology section of the International Studies Association

Xymena Kurowska has been elected chair of International Political Sociology section of the International Studies Association and will assume her duties in March. The section’s focus is on the social and cultural dimensions of international studies, broadly conceived. One of its main purposes is to foster innovative epistemological, methodological, analytic and theoretical perspectives on aspects of international studies less central to state-centered, economic, diplomatic and other traditional approaches.
