PhD Candidates Win First Prize in Essay Competition

Sara Svensson and Gergo Medve-Balint, PhD candidates in CEU’s Department of Public Policy and Department of International Relations and European Studies, respectively, won first prize in an academic essay contest arranged by the Palfi Istvan Regional Development Foundation and the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives.

20th Anniversary Events Fund Supports Workshop on Post-Soviet Central Asia

The workshop, “A Travelogue of Central Asian Scholarship: Methods, Fieldwork, and the (Lack of) Data Deluge,” is scheduled for Dec. 8 in the Gellner Room. Organized jointly by CEU’s Asia Research Initiative and Department of International Relations and European Studies, the workshop will take stock of two decades of scholarship on post-Soviet Central Asia—a region largely off- limits to foreign scholars in Soviet times.
