About OHPA

The Open Society Hub for the Politics of the Anthropocene (OHPA) at Central European University (CEU) in Vienna invites Ukrainian universities to express their interest in becoming OHPA partners. OHPA is a long-term cutting-edge research project that delves into the political dynamics of the Anthropocene—an era of crisis, marked by human influence on Earth. OHPA focuses on the political aspects of this crisis and aims to explore it through interdisciplinary collaboration. This includes exploring the political turbulence and military conflicts of the decarbonization era, the challenges of the oil curse and other pathologies of the world order, as well as various aspects of global transitions and climate-related issues. Benefits of Partnership

OHPA is pleased to offer Ukrainian universities a unique opportunity to join our global research community along with our esteemed partner universities, SciencesPo in France and UNICAMP in Brazil. Partner universities will take part in our events (regular seminars and the annual conference) and get an opportunity to contribute to our English-language publications with the CEU Press free of charge. In certain cases we will cover transportation and accommodation expenses. Over the project duration OHPA will delve into the following topics:

1. Critical studies of green activism, party politics, and climate mitigation in Europe;

2. Critical studies of carbon dependency, decarbonization, and international conflicts in the global perspective;

3. War and the Anthropocene;

4. The atom, security, climate change and the Anthropocene.

At the same time, we cordially invite your valuable input and welcome alternative topic suggestions from you, recognizing the significance of diverse perspectives in enhancing the breadth and depth of our collaborative efforts.

How to Express Interest

Ukrainian universities interested in partnering with OHPA are invited to submit Letters of Interest to Valeriia Hesse at HesseV@ceu.edu. In the letters of interest, potential partner universities are encouraged to address the following key points:

Motivation: Share the aspects that most captivate your institution regarding the prospect of collaboration, providing an insight into the motivations behind your university's interest.

Alignment: Articulate how OHPA work resonates with your institutional goals, emphasizing your unique expertise and research focus. If applicable, spotlight shared common objectives that could enhance collaboration, and human resources (researchers, students, etc.) who would be involved in the joint work.

Open Dialogue: Feel free to suggest alternative topics or specific areas of interest that your university would like to explore within the OHPA framework. Your input is valued, and we welcome the initiation of an open dialogue.

OHPA looks forward to expanding its network and fostering transformative solutions through collaborative efforts with Ukrainian universities!
